"His essays were experiments in understanding, not demonstrations of expertise." That's one solid affirmation. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. Read this just now, the second thing in the morning. And it's such a coherent piece of writing. Keep writing. Keep sharing. Keep going.
I saw myself so much in your words… thank you for sharing. I had never thought about essays that way. I’ve always found them intimidating, so thank you for helping me deconstruct my thinking about that.
I also feel like an impostor. I feel like I want to talk about these topics, but at the same time, I feel like I can’t because I don’t retain what I read, I lack depth. I related so, so much to what you wrote. I also have an agility in connecting moments and having lots of “aha moments” because of that. I’m truly in awe of what I read.
Thank you so much for sharing this on your plataform. I felt seen and understood.
This resonated with me so much! I've always struggled to articulate why I feel drawn to essays and writing, even though the literary medium itself isn't what I'm most attracted to. I'm drawn to thinking and writing is how I make sense of that thinking, those thoughts, and the connections between them. This essay gave me the push I needed to keep writing and reflecting and to stop feeling like I need to be an authority to write something that has always held me back.
all of the writing that’s brought the most insight to me, in learning about myself, the world or random musings always starts with curiosity and an honest approach to reach truth as closely as can be seen.
Very special letter, thank you for weaving this together. 💫
Hello, Harsh, I loved this essay so much, I'd like to recommend it to my readers. I'm writing a book on using writing to heal from trauma, and your essay addresses so many issues readers may be having. It also supports many of my themes about using writing to learn about yourself, to create order out of chaos, to become empowered. Can I assume I can mention you in my book?
I also have a substack called Saving Ourselves: Building a Better World. I paused in my posting because of finishing the book. Time to get back to it soon.
This is exactly what I experienced! Writing forces you to reach your limits, overcome them, and then set new ones — and later reflect on them. It’s one of the key ways we come to understand both the world and ourselves more deeply.
This post popped up right when I've been trying to gather and journal my thoughts together on a topic and feeling a bit frustrated my sources aren't perfectly tied together. This is confirmation to keep going!!! Thank you!
Writing essays to learn, and to remember. Really resonated with this! For a while I gave up on writing because I was bogged down by metrics, but I love learning. I cannot escape that. And I cannot escape writing as an essential skill and tool for it either. So that's why I started my Substack, to rekindle that joy of writing ✨
This was truly brilliant, Harsh.
Especially this part

Thank you Amit! Appreciate you reading
“When we write essays, we build mental models that stay with us. The connections forged between ideas become pathways in our minds.”
Well written! This quote above is exactly why I started my substack where I ‘upcycle’ my notes on decision-making into mini-essays.
That's awesome! Keep writing
Keep flowing
